     1841 Census: Jane and daughter Elizabeth (aged 6 years) are living in Middlesbrough, in Durham Street. James is not with them, presumed to be at sea. Ref: HO 107/1258/5 Folio 19 Page 32

1851 Census: James, Jane and daughter Elizabeth are living in Durham Street, Middlesbrough. James' occupation is listed as sailor; daughter Elizabeth, aged 15, is a dressmaker. A number of sailors, seamen and shipwrights' families are living in the same street. Ref: HO 107/2383/270, Page 34
   
In the ancestry.com site, it was difficult to search for this entry as there were a number of errors in the database:
* the surname was Lindler instead of Laidler
* Whilby instead of Whitby

1861 Census: James and Jane are still living in Middlesbrough, in Chapman Yard. It was difficult to use the search facility at ancestry.com to locate this entry as the surname is spelled Saidler, instead of Laidler, and Robin Hoods Bay was written Bobion Hoodbay. James' occupation is listed as sailor, on leave. With them on the night of the census is their grandson, James Miller, aged 2.
Next door to James and Jane is their daughter, Elizabeth, now married to George Miller, with two other children, John and George. Husband George Miller is also a sailor, on leave. Ref: RG9/3687/19, Page 45

1871 Census: James and Jane are still living in Middlesbrough, in Garden Street. James' occupation is still listed as sailor. It was difficult to locate this entry via the search facility at ancestry.com because the surname is spelled Laldtor, instead of Laidler. Robin Hoods Bay is spelled Robenlbogdo Balf. New Linthorpe Cemetery, Middlesbrough. Jane is buried in Plot No 1366. This is the third row from the path. In the front row is WOOD, second row is JONES (Plot No 1377) and directly behind JONES is Jane LAIDLER. Both JONES and WOOD have headstones; inscriptions as follows:

WOOD: Alice Ellis, Beloved wife of Thomas Wood, who died Feb 17 1916 aged 71 years. Also Thomas Wood, who died December 20 1930 aged 87 years. 'At rest'.

JONES: 243390 Private S Jones, Yorkshire Regiment, 19th June 1917.

Nearby is Plot No 1332 - HALL: 'In loving memory of my dear brother, Hugh Hall, died December 1930, aged 46 years. Also Mary A Allan, mother of the above died April 5 1917, aged 53 years. Also Joseph Mitchell, nephew of the above died Oct 13 1927, aged 11 years. Also Rosina Evans, sister of the above, Died Dec 22 1930 aged 37 years. Interred at East London Cem Plaistow.'

     Annie Balcombe (nee Watt) died on the 17th Dec 1905 at Andersons Inlet. An inquest into her death found:- Drowning caused by herself whilst suffering from deranged mind due to organic disease of the brain. Inquest held in the Central Bailiwick of Victoria at Glen Alvie on the 17Jan1906 before Alaxander Thompson JP
