Nickname: Minnie
Burial: Place: Karrakatta Cemetery, West Australia
Individual Note: Birth Reg No 136. Rosa Cooper in her interview stated that Minnie Young (Wilhemina) & her sister Mabel both left Victoria and went to the West at the same time. Two Miss Youngs were on the passenger manifest of the MONGOLIA (source ALEXANDER LIBRARY CD) arriving at Fremantle on 4 Apr 1910 from Adelaide. No other Youngs were listed.
Minnie Young ran or worked at a Guest House in York WA. She met William Matthew Laidler & produced a son Patrick. However William was killed at the "Battle of the Somme" before they could marry. She then moved to Meekatharra WA, leased a shop from the Lee-Steere family & opened a successful Cafe that she sold in the 1920s.
Minnie Young then bought & ran the Pinneroo Guest House in Carnarvon until WWII. Then, (in partnership with Desmond Stokes), she bought the Retreat Plantation on the north bank of the Gascoyne River and produced bananas until the plantation was sold in 1958. Desmond Stokes and Minnie Young then purchased a property at 13 York Street, Subiaco WA and Minnie lived there until just before her death in 1982.
