Individual Note:
On 9th November 1939 Herbert Whitfield joined the Australian Military Forces at Wangaratta. At the time he was aged 20 years and living with his mother (Ruth Whitfield, nee Adams) at 33 Corio Street in Shepparton and he was a painter. He served in Egypt and Palestine and spent some considerable time in hospital suffering from malaria. He was discharged at Melbourne on 6th April 1944. At that time he was aged 25 years, height 5' 11 1/2", brown hair, brown eyes and fair complexion. His address on discharge was 45 Corio Street, Shepparton and he was was married.

Herbert died of emphesema.
